For the first time in Canadian veteran history, Indigenous, non-Indigenous, and minority veterans have come together to create a safe, culturally secure place where all veterans can seek support.
Aboriginal Veterans Autochtones (AVA) is a proud founding member of the Burns Way. As a member of the not-for-profit corporation’s Board of Directors, we will ensure that all our members have a voice in shaping and expanding this innovative new program. The Burns Way will provide access to anonymous peer support from trained veterans who share their lived experiences.
The Burns Way is named in honour of Earl Burns Sr., a veteran of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry who died a warrior while defending his family and community during the James Smith Cree Nation massacre in September 2022.
We encourage all our members to visit the Burns Way website to learn about this innovative program and to consider volunteering to become a peer advocate.
Veterans helping veterans – it is what we do.
