COMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATION SHARING WITHIN THE C&E BRANCH COMMUNITY

Good Day Fellow Veteran Communicator,

I have prepared this message for general information purposes:

LIMITATIONS – ROGERS ISP MASS DISTRIBUTION MESSAGING

Approximately 10-years ago when I first attempted to send a message with more than 99-addressees, I received a bounced message notification to the effect my message contained more than the maximum number of addressees.  A telephone inquiry with a Rogers tech support staffer confirmed any message with more than 99-addressees will be rejected.  In addition, I was informed that the sum of the addressees for all the messages sent in a 24-hour period could not exceed ‘1000’.  When I asked why there is such a limitation, I was informed it was to restrict the abusive activities of spammers and mass distribution advertisers.  As a consequence, I sub-divided our distribution list (DL) and now have ‘13’ sub-lists for the approximately 850-addressees currently on the DL.  With this structure, no one sub-list has more than 98-addressees; however, it now necessitates sending each message 13-times and, I am limited to send only one message per day.

WAY AHEAD

As I mentioned in a recent message, I have restricted my screen time since having cataract surgery two months ago and I am now starting to clear an extensive email backlog.

For starters and to minimalize the number of outgoing message, I decided to create a grouped Last Post message with the obituaries for seven of our recently deceased colleagues.  As such, I will only need to send 1-message 13-times rather than 7-messages 13-times over a 7-day period.  Regretfully in one instance, our colleague passed away in December 2019 and his passing was only brought to my attention in late November.

Provided this message transports without any problems, I will send the above referenced Last Post message tomorrow.
